A little idea

I got this idea from the Girl Talk blog...

I will be posting a picture every week that portrays my life as a mom.
But not just "my life as a mom" in the simple way that sounds, but rather what that really means.
The point is to see the ordinary as extraordinary.
I want to do this on Mondays so I can focus my week on "why I'm doing what I'm doing."
The little things we do and see and experience as mothers are really for a greater purpose than we often stop to think about.

The dirt we clean helps make our house a home.
The noses we wipe lead our children to health.
The laundry we wash over and over again teaches us to be joyful in our serving.
The tantrums we calm teach our children self-control and proper behavior.

The "little things" really don't seem that little when we look at it with an eternal perspective.

According to the Girltalk blog, "The tedious is, in fact, momentous—when done for the sake of Christ: '…so that in everything they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior”'(Titus 2:10)."

So this is my plan anyway! ;)
(and I'm certainly not committing to a year of this like they did on the Girltalk blog)

I LOVE this idea. I spent a good half hour looking through their pictures. I just wish I was a better photographer! But this encourages me to take and post pictures more often. I'm so bad about only hauling out the camera for an event...the everyday is just as fascinating:)

Raising Real Men, part 6

Moving into Part Two of the book, "Civilization for the Tough," the Young's begin with "First Things" first! What do you think is the first thing involved in raising REAL men to be civilized? Deuteronomy 6:4-7 The Young's have dubbed this passage of Scripture "the basic commandment for homeschoolers." I think many homeschoolers use this passage, as well as Deut. 11:18-20 , which I even have had on my homeschool blog for awhile :) To summarize the verses: Teach (these words) diligently to your children, talk of them while you sit, when you walk, when you lie down, when you rise... The foundation of the raising of our children (boys or girls) must begin here. Raising Real Men

I just started reading Raising Real Men by Hal and Melanie Young , and I am already blown away. I read so many rave reviews about the book, and (seeing as I have four boys) I figured it would be a good one for my library. I will posting a "quote of the week" from the book here on the blog, as well as various convictions, thoughts, and things I am learning. I would love to have something to look back at once I'm finished reading the book, and I hope it will benefit those of you with boys out there as well. So often, I feel like I need to re-read books once I finish them simply because it takes me so long to get through them. This is also one of those books that I feel like has so much to chew on in one chapter, I need to let it sit for a few days.
